Our NHS client, based on in Yorkshire seeks to recruit an Assistant Financial Accountant on a Fixed Term Contract for an initial period of 4 months.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of the Trust’s annual accounts and other periodic financial returns, ensuring that the Trust maintains proper accounts and supplementary records to discharge its responsibility in line with Standing Financial Instructions and to support the auditing of the accounts by the statutory auditor.
  • Play a key role in the agreement of balances with other NHS organisations for income, expenditure, debtors & creditors, quarterly and at the year end. Ensure all agreements are settled & queries resolved within the set timescales. Ensure that balances are accurately reflected in the general ledger.
  • Ensure that all control accounts are reconciled and cleared on a regular basis, so that all material expenses affecting income, expenditure or balance sheet items are accounted for in the correct period. Identify and implement improvements to current processes.
  • Work proactively with third party providers of financial services, ensuring the delivery of a good quality service to the Trust. Deputise for the Senior Financial Accountant as the representative of the Trust on relevant user groups, raising issues and reporting back to the finance team.
  • Ensure that petty cash systems and records are robust and accurate.
  • Ensure safe custody of all monies received for banking, issue receipts for income received and ensure all monies are banked on a regular basis.
  • Ensure all payroll deduction schedules and urgent/routine payment requests are dealt with in an accurate & timely manner.
  • Analyse & review monthly VAT information to facilitate accurate & timely completion of the Trust’s VAT return. Complete statutory VAT return on a monthly basis.

Requirements

  • AAT qualified or CCAB qualification to certificate level or equivalent knowledge & experience.
  • Experienced spreadsheet user.
  • Experience and expertise in a range of financial accounting areas (eg reconciliations, control account balances, VAT payments and deductions, cash management).
  • Experience of financial computer systems and ledgers.
